In 2017, I embarked on a transformative journey, traveling overland from Egypt through the heart of East Africa. From the bustling streets of Cairo to the majestic highlands of Ethiopia, and onward to the vibrant cultures of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, every step of this journey was filled with moments of awe, challenge, and connection.

As I crossed borders and languages shifted, I relied on a rudimentary system: hand-scribbled phrases, basic word lists, and endless searches for the right way to communicate. These tools helped me buy food in local markets, ask for directions to remote villages, and connect with the incredible people who welcomed me into their lives. But it wasn’t enough.

I remember standing on the border between Sudan and Ethiopia, staring at my notes and wishing there was a way to instantly adapt to the new language and culture awaiting me. In that moment, the idea for Phrase Path began to take shape: an app that evolves with you, offering location-specific phrases, empowering communication, and making every interaction seamless and meaningful.

Phrase Path was born from this vision—to break down barriers, foster authentic connections, and empower travelers to explore the world with confidence. From Cairo to Cape Town and everywhere in between, we’re building a tool for adventurers who want more than just a journey—they want a story.
